Nick Carlisle - End of Terrain

4m Music 2023

The official video for the Nick Carlisle single End of Terrain, created by Glenn Marshall.

QFT commissioned Nick to compose a new score for the silent film Häxan in 2022, and now we’re delighted to present the first single from his forthcoming solo album, Bloody Saturnalia, on QFT Player.

End of Terrain was written following the passing of Nick’s Dad: “I took myself off to Iceland for a few days to try and see the Northern Lights, maybe because it seemed like the sort of thing Dad and I might have done - a step up from getting up at 2am to watch lightning storms as we used to do when I was a child. Anyway, I didn’t see a bloody thing, just a faint green tinge only visible in long exposure photos. But! With a little poetic licence, in the song the lights are there, dancing in the sky; the souls of recently departed loved ones if you believe the Inuit legend.”

Director Glenn Marshall is a leading international digital artist and experimental filmmaker based in Belfast. A dual award winner with Prix Ars Electronica and the Lumen Prize, his work is renowned globally for its creativity and innovation. In the past few years, Glenn’s work with generative AI has attracted the attention of a worldwide network of filmmakers, artists and coders, all expressing admiration for its technical and creative excellence. In 2021, this culminated with his short film The Crow winning an award at Cannes Short Film Festival and an honourable mention at Prix Ars Electronica.

End of Terrain is taken from the forthcoming Nick Carlisle album Bloody Saturnalia, released 24 November 2023 on The Colour Inverted Records.
