Nashville

2h 40m Comedy, Drama, Musical 1975

Robert Altman’s masterpiece charts a series of seemingly unrelated events involving a couple of dozen people – musicians, agents, fans, workers, politicians, partners – in Nashville during a five-day music festival. Seemingly partly improvised and inconsequential, but actually meticulously constructed, the film offers sharp insights – some satirical, some deeply affecting – into the many social inequalities, injustices and illusions barely concealed by the homilies of the American Dream.

With a huge ensemble cast including Lily Tomin, Ned Beatty, Keith Carradine, Karen Black, Ronee Blakley and Altman regular Henry Gibson, Nashville is a witty, illuminating and exhilarating portrait of modern America.
